Questions to Ask Your Physician

Below are questions individuals with heart failure and their caregivers often have. These questions may help you and your loved one determine some of your own questions for the physician. Feel free to print out the following questions and discuss them, and others, with your physician during your next appointment.

  • What's the diagnosis? What stage of heart failure are we currently facing?
  • What are treatment options and their associated risks, benefits or side effects?
  • What's the next step?
  • Are there any physical restrictions? What are the most important things we can do to manage heart failure symptoms?
  • A certain medication (name it) is causing some undesirable side effects. Is there some way to minimize them? Is another medication available?
  • If symptoms appear to worsen or change suddenly, what's the best way for us to contact you?
